Fitting Stations and Clinics

Child Safety Seat Fitting Stations

Parents and caregivers in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Alamogordo, Farmington, Deming, Rio Rancho, Artesia, Carlsbad, Raton, and Las Cruces now have a free and convenient way to have their child's safety seat inspected, thanks to a public service provided by the NMDOT, TSB and Safer. Through fitting stations, parents and caregivers have access to personal instruction from certified technicians on the proper selection and use of their child safety seats. Fitting stations offer appointments during regular hours of operation at a permanent location with a consistent point of contact.

This service is good news for New Mexico's families in light of a study that found the majority of parents continue to make mistakes when using child safety seats. On average, parents and caregivers make at least two mistakes, ranging from not securing the seat belt tightly around the car seat to not using the correct seat for their child. These mistakes leave children less protected by their child safety seat and dangerously vulnerable in the event of a crash.

If you would like more information about child safety seat fitting stations, or would like to make an appointment at the fitting station in your community, please call Safer at 1-800-231-6145 or visit the link below for locations statewide.

Child Safety Seat Clinics

As part of a general commitment to Child Passenger Safety, the NMDOT, TSB and Safer host child safety seat clinics statewide. Child safety seat clinics offer a free and convenient opportunity for parents and caregivers to have their child safety seats inspected and installed. At clinics, parents and caregivers have access to personal instruction from certified technicians on the proper selection and use of their child safety seats. Child safety seat clinics differ from Fitting Stations in that they are usually one-time events at unique locations and appointments are not made. Clinics are "first come, first served" events. Clinic dates and locations are listed on the Safer calendar of upcoming events.
